Industry Partners
The Music and Recording Arts pathway is supported by a handful of industry partners. Among these are Dr. Lee Whitmore of Focusrite/Novation, Dr. David Moyer and Jon Minei of El Camino College, Luis Munoz of ModernGuitarTech, and Moa Munoz of Olivia Rodrigo.
Industry Partner Engagement
Lawndale High School has been involved with industry partners for over 5 years. Focusrite/Novation supplied the school site with a grant that allowed 1 to1 pathway student access to Launchpad Pro and launchpad mini MIDI interfaces. They also supplied them with heavy discounts for 20 Scarlett 2i2 Studio Kits for concentrator and capstone students and provided feedback and support with industry-standard equipment and facility upgrades. ModernGuitarTech has also supported the pathway with an annual guitar maintenance and repair contract as well as guitar technician mentorship and masterclass for at least 2 technically oriented students. Additionally, Moa Munoz worked to facilitate a one week-long Songwriter Camp Masterclass and Mentorship for Capstone students to be submitted for Sync Library Review by Music Directors from Netflix.
Work Based Learning
The Music and Recording Arts Pathway at Lawndale High works to provide their students with plenty of hands-on learning opportunities. Some of these include Pop Song transcriptions, rendition arrangements, and live performances, Original Song composition, arrangement, and recording, Live Event coordination, performance, and production.
Lawndalepalooza is the pinnacle of the Music & Recording Arts Pathway program. Students manage technical and performer roles. Technical students handle sound and lighting, using their knowledge to enhance musical performances. Performers create a 15-minute setlist to showcase their transcription, arrangement, and technical skills. All students develop individual and group rehearsal schedules.
