  • This foundational three-day PD centers around high-quality AED pathway and course design. Teachers are guided through the AME Institute framework for a strong AED pathway, with the goal of creating an standards-aligned course outline using the UC-approved course outline template. The training includes interactive activities that explore each of the elements of the framework, while practicing instructional strategies that are culturally responsive and industry-aligned. Participating teachers will be provided with ample work time on their course development with the support of expert AED Facilitators.

  • In this three-day PD, teachers are guided through a process of project or unit design using the Gold-Standard PBL model developed by the Buck Institute as a jumping off point, but tailoring the project-planning process to the unique needs of Art, Entertainment, and Design projects. The professional development will be tailored to the level of experience that teachers have with PBL. For newer teachers, the workshops will be geared towards creating standards-aligned projects that involve at least two of the elements in the PBL model. A key feature of this PD is the opportunity for teachers to create exemplary artwork that they can use in their teaching. Refreshing in ourselves our love of creative work, this process allows teachers to take note of the creative strategies the project will require. Teachers develop industry-aligned assessment tools and practice critique and revision, as a strategy for teachers to fine-tune their planning and also to practice with colleagues at their schools and with their students.

    • Create a unit or project plan and a student exemplar that will directly apply in their teaching

    • Develop key assets for teaching the PBL unit like slide decks, rubrics and student-facing overviews of project steps

    • Participate in critique and revision sessions that can be used in the classroom

  • In this full or half-day PD teachers do a deep dive into the CA-Arts, Entertainment, and Design Model Curriculum Standards. Considered the gold standard for an industry-aligned AED pathway, these standards support an occupationally aligned course that integrates Career Ready skills, Cross-Pathway skills, and the technical skills and industry practice included in the Focus Area Pathway skills. Teachers will have time to explore the standards, collaborate with peers, and more deeply consider how they will begin integrating this incredible resource into their curriculum and instruction.

  • These meetings will be a 90 minute monthly opportunity for curricular collaborations and workshop time. Teachers will have a chance to share updates and resources, as well as provide constructive feedback to one another. The PLCs will also be an opportunity to extend work on the course outlines or project design.
